New season Banana Moon swimwear has just arrived at Simply Beach and the most striking detail about this collection is the stunning use of contrast in the colours and prints. This is one of Banana Moon’s strongest seasons for a while. The rich, vibrant colours and bold prints clash brilliantly. More muted tones are well covered, with plenty of soft greys and classic black, so there really is something for everyone. Banana Moon key trends this season :
Contrasing Prints
Citrus Brights
Pretty Florals
(p.s a quick heads up … if you love the Banana Moon brand, you’re in for a treat – we’ll be stocking Banana Moon lingerie really soon. Stay tuned!)
Swimwear designers have fully embraced classic white for their AW11 and SS12 collections. The ultimate tan enhancer, white is so versatile & can be mixed and matched with pretty much any colourway. A couple of classic white beach pieces will form the base of the most fashion-forward beach wardrobes this season. A white beach dress can be accessorized in a multitude of ways – chunky gold is good, as is wood, turquoise, silver, colour … the list is endless. Key pieces …
The choice is broad style-wise – from contemporary to retro, pretty ruffle trims to luxuriously embellished bodices. Some designers have incorporated white more heavily into their collections, the ones to watch are Melissa Odabash, Aguaclara and Seafolly.

The Seafolly Beachside Bliss Playsuit is pefect for throwing on over a bikini on the beach. No shoulder strap tan lines to contend with either.

Classics are well represented too, so you can pick up a flattering black bikini or one piece to form the base of your beach wardrobe, plus a head-turner or two in an innovative print. It’s all here.
What we love most about the likes of Fantasie, Freya and Panache is how expertly they balance exceptional support and coverage with fashion-forward design. A few highlights …
Strapless and Supportive?
Not two words you often find in the same sentence. One thing curvy women often struggle to find is a decent strapless bikini top that will support an ample bust. That’s where Panache, Fantasie and Freya come in. These brands are brilliant at creating swimwear that gives you the support you need, even the strapless styles.

If all the predictions are right, 2012 is the year the one piece will really come into its own. There’s an eclectic mix of styles coming in this season, with no one strong trend, there really is something for everyone. A couple of DD+ highlights from Fantasie & Jets. Very different styles, equally stunning.

If there’s one clear SS12 trend to emerge from this year’s swimwear shows it’s the return of the one piece. Swimsuits are back in a big way.
We’ll never lose our love of the bikini, of course, but the one piece is set to take centre stage in 2012. Swimsuits are hotter than ever, with something for all shapes and tastes. We’re loving the retro trend, as ever, yet there are some stunning contemporary designs coming through too. Here’s our pick of the bunch … Retro classic, hot print, tan booster, figure fixer, show stopper …
Retro Classic
The boyleg cut has a strong 1950′s look, with a hint of the roaring ’20s in the low leg and striped print, too. The ultimate retro one piece from Seafolly.
Hot Print
This one piece from Jets by Jessika Allen combines innovative design with a striking, original exotic butterfly print. The perfect combination. Stunning.
Tan Booster
All shades of orange are big news for SS12. We love the fiery vibrance of this Sunseeker one piece swimsuit. A brilliant colour for showing off a golden tan beautifully.
Figure Fixer
Hugely flattering, the crossover bodice and clever use of gathering to the sides creates a stunning silhouette. Great neutral shade, this Miraclesuit classic is the perfect beach staple.
Show Stopper
Last but not least is this amazing one piece by the exclusive Jets White Label. With only the slightest hint of retro with the Ursula Andress-esque belt, this cutting edge design is fresh, contemporary and innovative. The ultimate head turner. Wow.
Everybody knows that choosing the right bikini when appearing on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here can help to make a career.
Take Myleene Klass and her infamous white bikini, it won her a modelling contract and reignited her dwindling post Hear’Say (remember them?!) career. Not only this but such was the power of her white bikini it was eventually sold on eBay, raising over £7000 for charity.
Others have tried and failed to re-create her bikini-in-the-shower success, but few have succeeded. Every year the press bet on who is going to be the next girl to steal her bikini-wearing crown. This year it was tipped to be 26-year-old model Jessica Jane Clement, however, she has recently been upstaged by another model, 28-year-old Australian Emily Scott.
With the papers pitting them against each other in a bikini showdown, it often seems the older contestants get overlooked. So imagine our excitement when we saw gorgeous 60-year-old Lorraine Chase around the I’m a Celebrity camp site wearing a Seafolly Pin-Up Bikini from the cruise collection that has just arrived here at Simply Beach HQ!!
Looking svelte, elegant and, might I add, enviously younger than her years, Lorraine has been taking on the Australian jungle wearing the native Seafolly brand – and seems to like wearing it so much she rarely takes it off! It looks like she had some time to do a quick shop at the Seafolly store in Brisbane when she landed in the country earlier this month.
We have to say, she gets our vote!
So versatile, wear it day or night, home or away …
These gold flip flops will go with pretty much anything …
Wear it on the beach, out for lunch, or with jeans when you get home …
Classic striped shorts to match the Seafolly Pin Up singlet or a block colour vest in red, white or blue …
An absolute classic, the perfect swimsuit to form the base of your winter sun swimwear wardrobe …
Versatile, comfortable and bang on-trend …
A blank canvas in versatile, neutral white, accessorise any way you choose …
This Seafolly bikini comes as separates, so you can mix and match with pretty much any other …
Capri pants are a must-have, fashion-forward holiday basic …
A classic cover up from Aguaclara – so adaptable. A great holiday essential.
This is one of our busiest times of the year, as all the cruise collections start coming in. It’s a hive of activity at Simply Beach HQ, we’re all hard at work shooting the swimwear and catwalk videos and getting it onto Simply Beach quick sharp, so you can get your hands on it!
As well as one of the most hectic, it’s also one of the most exciting times of the year, as we get to preview the gorgeous new pieces in action on the catwalk – the perfect antidote to the onset of winter outside the window! This year, the cruise collections are particularly strong. The full coverage 1950s influence is definitely carrying through, but there’s lots around for those with more contemporary tastes. The new Sunseeker swimwear cruise collection just arrived is a perfect example.
Key trends are vibrant colour, exotic print and contemporary styling. This is a go-to collection if you want a a slighter cut than the retro low leg styles that feature heavily in many cruise collections. Oh, and the long sundress is sublime …
Orange Brights
Tropical Exotics
Gorgeous Greys
As you can tell from this edit, it’s a fashion-forward, eclectic collection from Sunseeker. As ever, there’s something for everyone.
There are some things that some countries just excel at.
When it comes to our friends down under, the list is as long as your arm. Sport? Check. Work/life balance? Check. I could go on. The outdoor beach culture that permeates Australian life produces great sportsmen and women, chilled out natives and some of the world’s most cutting edge swimwear.
Australia’s swimwear brands have an instinctive feel for what we want from our swimwear. They’re the ones dictating trends, leading the way, and we can’t get enough of them. Love for Aussie cozzies and beachwear has gone global; the appeal of brands like Seafolly knows no bounds. If you think Australian swimwear is just about surfer chic, think again. Here’s a snapshot of some hot Aussie brands and why they’re making waves.
A great brand for inspired use of colour and prints. Baku Australia manages to combine high quality with cutting edge design. Bold colourways and striking prints are the order of the day. Cuts are slight without being overtly skimpy.
Ginja is Baku Australia’s younger sister. Strong colour and textile design again. As with Baku Australia, the prints are the stand out feature. The cuts are cute and carefree. Baku Australia and Ginja are the go-to brands if you want something youthful but not overly surfy.
30 year old label Jets was relaunched by designer Jessika Allen a decade ago. Jets by Jessika Allen swimwear oozes grown up glamour. Recent collections have featured a strong retro influence, bringing 1950s poolside chic bang up to date with modern detailing and striking use of colour.
This is a well established brand that epitomises the Australian outdoor life with a contemporary take on the classic surf style. Sunseeker create versatile collections of swimsuits and mix & match bikinis that fuse high fashion with a laid back, sun-kissed charm.
Highly coveted and unfailingly appealing. Season after season, Seafolly produce collections that are as wearable as they are fashion-forward. The key trends of the season feature, with distinctive Seafolly twists to set them apart. This brand take a trend and make it their own. This brand has captured the hearts of women the world over.
Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs, Julien MacDonald and Henry Holland. Just a handful of designers who’ve fully embraced the polka dot trend this season. From couture to high street, monochrome to technicolour, spots and dots will see us through the winter.
It’s not just outerwear designers who have incorporated polka dots into their collections. The trend has filtered through to the swimwear of most of our favourite designers. Polka dots combined with retro 50s styling is a match made in heaven.
Seafolly bikinis are always a great barometer as to what’s hot or not, and the coming collection is dotted with cute spots and retro polka dots.
3 of the best … with polka dots galore to come further into the season too … we can’t wait!
